On Word Conversion in Translating English for Science and Technology
Abstract
As a special type of writing, EST has its own features. Thus in EST translation a variety of methods and techniques are employed. Here in EST translation into Chinese, meaning takes almost absolute precedence over form, so that techniques of word conversion are widely employed which concern making changes in language form for faithful transference of meaning. Combing the features of EST with the difference between English and Chinese as well as applying the translation theory, this thesis discusses the use of word conversion in EST translation, with emphasis on the conversion rules between various parts of speech, including the conversion into verbs, conversion into nouns, conversion into adjectives and conversion into adverbs.

摘 要
作為1種特殊的文體，科技英語(yǔ)有其獨(dú)特的特點(diǎn)。在漢譯過(guò)程中必然會(huì)使用多種翻譯方法和技巧。在科技英語(yǔ)漢譯中，意義總是比形式重要。因此，詞類(lèi)轉(zhuǎn)換這種翻譯技巧就被廣泛采用，因?yàn)樗ㄟ^(guò)詞類(lèi)形式上的轉(zhuǎn)換來(lái)達(dá)到內(nèi)容上的忠實(shí)。本文結(jié)合科技英語(yǔ)的特點(diǎn)和英漢雙語(yǔ)的差異，在翻譯理論的基礎(chǔ)上系統(tǒng)論述了詞類(lèi)轉(zhuǎn)換這1重要翻譯技巧在科技英語(yǔ)這1特定語(yǔ)域中的具體操作及應(yīng)用，重點(diǎn)論述了轉(zhuǎn)換為漢語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞，轉(zhuǎn)換為漢語(yǔ)名詞，轉(zhuǎn)換為漢語(yǔ)形容詞和轉(zhuǎn)換為漢語(yǔ)副詞。
