臉譜 is taking another stab at reducing the amount of "clickbait" in your news feed.

"These are headlines that intentionally leave out crucial information, forcing people to click to find out the answer," the company said in an announcement on Thursday.

In other words: The headline on this story better be pretty specific.

Publishers large and small pay very close attention to every adjustment of the 臉譜 algorithm, since the social network drives so much traffic to news and entertainment web sites.

The company made a big change at the end of June that was meant to prioritize posts from friends over posts from brands and publishers.

Thursday's change is not as sweeping, but it will still affect what you see in the news feed, and it will affect how web sites produce news.

臉譜 is targeting headlines like -- this is an example they came up with -- "When She Looked Under Her Couch Cushions And Saw THIS... I Was SHOCKED!"

臉譜 staffers Alex Peysakhovich and Kristin Hendrix said in a blog post that the company has "built a system to detect clickbait headlines."

It is "similar to how many email spam filters work," they wrote. "Our system identifies posts that are clickbait, and which web domains and Pages these posts come from. Links from or shared from Pages that consistently post clickbait headlines will appear lower in News Feed. News Feed will continue to learn over time — If a Page stops posting clickbait headlines, their posts will stop being impacted by this change."

"Clickbait" has been a scourge of the web for several years. But the term means different things to different people. So Thursday's announcement will be parsed by publishers for details about what 臉譜 thinks it is.

Peysakhovich and Hendrix define it this way:

"If the headline withholds information required to understand what the content of the article is" and "if the headline exaggerates the article to create misleading expectations for the reader."

Entire networks of web sites exist to win traffic through these types of headlines.

The announcement didn't address whether sponsored posts -- that is, posts that sites pay 臉譜 to bring more visitors to -- would also be penalized for clickbait headlines.

This is the second time 臉譜 has specifically tried to tamp down on the behavior. A round of algorithm tweaks to address clickbait were announced in August 2014.

Back then, the company acknowledged that the algorithm was inadvertently rewarding such stories, because the links "tend to get a lot of clicks," but users found the stories to be unsatisfying.

Two years later, this remains true, 臉譜 said.

Why does the company care if you're satisfied by the links you click? Because the happier you are with your 臉譜 experience, the more often you'll come back to 臉譜.

Humans have yet to explore the deep wonders of the sea, but a recent find suggests aliens may have already beaten us to it.

Deep below the Pacific Ocean lies what one Martian researcher has deemed 'a perfect pyramid'.

Using Google Earth, this massive structure appears to be 8.5 miles across and some say it could be a UFO parked underwater or an enormous alien base.

Marcelo Igazusta, a researcher in Argentina, was the first to lay eyes on the mysterious underwater structure, which was discovered last month.

Using the coordinates 12 ° 8'1.49 'N 119 ° 35'26.39' W, Igazusta claims to have spotted a beam of light shining from the darkness of the Pacific Ocean just west of Mexico - leading him to this 'monumental discovery'.

Well-known alien hunter, Scott C Waring, picked up the discovery today and shared it with his followers.

'It's a perfect pyramid that measures 8.5 miles across one side of its base,' Waring writes in his blog UFO Sightings Daily.

'That's a conservative estimate, it could be up to 11 miles across.'

The massive structure may be hard to make out, as it looks like a blur on the screen, but if you envision a pyramid and squint while looking at the area it might appear in front of your eyes.

Waring explains that this 'perfect pyramid' is adjacent to the ancient Mayan and Aztec pyramids in Mexico.

Although the ancient pyramids were constructed by humans, Waring says 'Only aliens could accomplish makings such a massive structure' --referring to the one underwater.

'Even if this is not a UFO that landed in the ocean that was being used as an alien base, it is still a monumental discovery,' he writes.

'An 8.5 mile pyramid… biggest the world has ever known.'

Google Earth may be the new go-to source to find evidence of alien life here on Earth.

In April, Waring posted another sighting – but this time it was a mythical creature.

Plugging the coordinates 63° 2'56.73'S 60°57'32.38'W in Google Earth, he claims to have spotted the mythical Kraken swimming off the coast of Deception Island near Antarctica.

'I used Google ruler and it says this is 30 meters (100 feet) from head to end, but the end looks like just the mid area of a giant squid, which means it could be 60+ meters long with tentacles,' Waring wrote in his blog last month.

'That sounds like the Kraken to me.'

Waring also thought of the extinct prehistoric animal Plesiosaur when he spotted the massive beast causing ‘a massive disturbance in the ocean’.

Another conspiracy theorist has posted about the find, but with a different opinion about the large object.

‘But if you look more closely it looks like an artificially made object, an underwater UFO coming out of the ocean,’ the unknown author shared on UFO Sightings Hotspot.

Kraken, Plesiosaur, underwater UFO or maybe even a massive whale, whatever is lurking in the dark fridge waters near Antarctica is a massive creature creating quite a stir.
