          Context of Research

          Apple Inc Multinational Corporation is incorporated in the US but has computer software, mobile phones and personal computer production and assembly lines scattered in different parts of the world. The company also manufactures an assortment of both computer related and non-related products for different purposes (Levitt, 2007).

          Like most organisations, Apple started as a small organisation but through hard work and the ingenuity of its founding directors, the company was able to turn the whole industry around to become one of the most important companies in the world. With the demise of Steve Jobs who headed the organisation for a considerable period of time, the company has been handed over to Tim Cook in order to continue this unique approach to innovation and vary it to suit the exigencies of the contemporary market (Levitt, 2007). The growing value of innovation therefore require Apple to continuously innovate in order to consolidate their cost advantage, profitability and human resources capabilities which has made them become who they are. Specifically in relations to the Apple, it is the contention of Silva, et al (2009) that its unique approach to managing human resources in innovation such as bottom to up, internal marketing, and others directly allow them to flexibly deploy its manpower for the success in innovation and that is consistent with the views of Drucker (2000) that staff are important sources of competitive advantage., It is within these contexts that the research is interested in finding out the extent to which the performance of the business is affected by innovation and entrepreneurship.

          Research Aims and Objectives

          The aim of the research is to examine the performance of the business is affected by innovation and entrepreneurship. The objectives of the research are:

          To examine the potential ways by which innovation can help an organisation to reduce its cost of operation as well as enhanced its revenue potential to achieve higher profits

          a. To analyse the ways by which innovating organisation can be equipped with competitive tool to achieve higher competitive advantage over other organisation that do not innovate

          b. To examine the unique ways by which an organisation can employ its human resources into innovative ventures and how effective innovation can also enhance human resources development in an organisation

          c. To make recom

          mendations on how Apple can consolidate its current innovation and further enhance its innovative competences and capabilities in order to guarantee its competitive advantage through cost reduction and enhanced revenue

          Research Questions

          a. To what does innovation contribute to cost advantage by Apple?

          b. To what extent does innovation lead to competitive advantage by Apple?

          c. How uniquely is Apple applying its human resources to innovate and how is it beneficial?

          d. Ho can Apple consolidate its current innovation and further enhance its innovative competences and capabilities?

          Relevance of Research

          The importance of this research comes from the fact that it has both academic and industrial value. In terms of the industrial value of the research, some of the existing literature on market competition explains the importance of gaining uncontested market space as a desirable condition for making profit even though it is not the only approach (Heyne, et al, 2012). They further contend that if an organisation was guaranteed success in the market place, there would have been no need to plan and strategies but this is not the situation that organisation find themselves. The growth in competition means that organisations do not just have to change with changes in the environment as once proposed by Peters and Waterman (1984) to enhance performance but they have to change in a different way from how other people are changing (Gromov 2011).

          For this reason the information that has been collected will demonstrate from a successful companies point of view the validity in the claim that when organisation work have to be innovative and entrepreneurial, they are possibly going to make it in term of reduce its cost of operation and enhanced its revenue potential to achieve higher profits (Tuomi, 2002). It will also help to present evidence to test the validity in the claim of researchers like O'Sullivan (2002) that effective innovation and entrepreneurship is the source of competitive advantage over other organisations that do not innovate an also in the views of Drucker (2000) that competitive advantage is a product of investment in people both skilled and unskilled.

          Because Apple is very large and successful organisation, the information about how they innovate either by investing in other resources of their human resources can help new or smaller organisations to learn from successful ones like Apple. For its academic significance, it is the contention of Siltala (2010) that studies as basic as this is important because it will serve as useful source of secondary literature for academics. In that same regard it is expected that advanced researcher including university lecturers can also hope to find the rudimentary issues about how the performance of business is affected by innovation and entrepreneurship in order to build on it.
