短語有很多，網上也有很多的總結，那些是考研同學應該掌握的：1. 有可能會在考研類型的文章中出現的。2. 不認識就做不對題的，也就是可能是考點的。根據這兩個標準我會給同學們收集和總結。
1. chasing your tail : 意思就是從早到晚忙個不停，但沒有太多收獲，就是我們常說的瞎忙活或無謂瞎忙。
例句：Because the market is changing more dramatically than it would have 15 or 20 years ago. I think that’s because there are a lot more trend- followers involved in the market than before. It’s a game where you’re forever chasing your tail. 因為和15年或20年前比，現在市場變化太劇烈了。我想可能是因為現在的跟風者會比過去多，所以這是一場毫無收獲的游戲。(期貨交易大師理查德•丹尼斯訪談)這個訪談中這句話的翻譯，在全網上沒有一個正確的，所以短語真的很重要!
2.take a page from...向...學習
例句：The energy sector could take a page from financial firms, which do a good job of ensuring that Internet-based transactions are secure.
電力部門可以從財政公司吸取經驗，因為他們很好的保護了跨國交易的安全。
3. Turn the page (和中文的意思是一樣的!翻篇!)
例句：The president told the nation the war was over and asked them to turn the page and work for the reconstruction of the country.
4. It never rains but it pours.“不雨則已，一雨傾盆”，形容壞事不來則已，一來則不止。
It never rains but it pours 和中國成語里的“禍不單行”意思一樣。
5. In the hole：負債累累
例句：Economists are scratching their heads. The global recession has left many countries in the hole. Which ones are likely to regain prosperity?
同意替換: in the red 欠債
6. Turn to jelly： 膽怯/發顫
這個短語本身不難理解，果凍是軟的，“嚇軟了唄”。
我們需要知道衍生的東西：
形容某事為 like nailing jelly to the wall 就說明這件事讓人無法理解也很難形容。
Writing the history of this period is like nailing jelly to the wall.
另外還有一個近似的單詞很重要：jittery謹慎。

8. to weigh in 意思是在辯論或爭執場合中發表意見
例句：Owners of small businesses have weighed in on the interest rate debate. Most of them want to keep the rates low for as long as possible.
9. In the picture 字面意思是“在圖片里”，但實際想表達的意思是了解具體情況和事態的來龍去脈。
例句：Members of Parliament insisted on being put in the picture about the government's plans.

10. back to the drawing board：重新開始，重頭開始
例句：That is because, unlike an engineer, evolution cannot go back to the drawing board, it can merely play with what already exists.
