海棠山位于阜新市蒙古族自治縣境內(nèi)，是東北三大名山之一醫(yī)巫閭山的余脈。
海棠山不僅是國家級森林公園，還是藏傳佛教黃教教派的藝術名山。人們稱贊山中的奇松怪石可與黃山的相媲美。山中的摩崖造像是“中國東方藏傳佛教中心”唯一幸存的珍貴文物群�，F(xiàn)在就讓我們來共同游覽。
海棠山的山門整體造型是一個“佛“字。海棠山是蒙古語“亥臺兀勒”的音譯。“亥臺”蒙古語譯為“墻垛”，“兀勒”意為“山”。亥臺山用蒙古語音譯為“海棠山”。有人從山的名字上誤認為山上必有海棠，實際上山上一朵海棠花都沒有。
這是普安寺，俗稱‘大喇嘛洞，是阜新地區(qū)僅次于瑞應寺的第二大寺廟，始建于1683年，至建國前夕，歷經(jīng)270余年，有6代5位活佛相傳。由于清王朝倡導黃教，蒙古王公積極支持，所以普安寺不斷擴建，歷時百余年，終于形成了具有完整體系的藏傳佛教寺廟建筑群。寺院建筑依山勢布局，寺內(nèi)雕鑄塑畫及眾多佛像千姿百態(tài)，栩栩如生。煙火鼎盛時期，喇嘛多達1600多名。普安寺的主體建筑是大雄寶殿，大殿正中門上掛著道光皇帝御筆欽賜的“普安寺”匾額，兩側有壁畫四大天王像。重新復建的大雄寶殿建筑面積達968平方米，建筑風貌非常宏偉壯觀，整個大雄寶殿用黃金6公斤，寶石1200塊，是目前東北地區(qū)修復建設的最大一座藏傳佛教廟宇。殿內(nèi)的這座高9.9米的大白傘蓋佛母像是全國最大的室內(nèi)雕塑佛造像之一。他們集中展示了普安寺民族宗教文化的動人風采。這座佛寺對祖國的宗教文化和民族文化的發(fā)展做出了一定的貢獻。
海棠山以峰巒、峭壁和古松等自然景觀最具特色，各種奇峰怪石十分獨特�，F(xiàn)在我們就來欣賞一下這些巖石。
這是蛤蟆石。傳說啊，在很久以前，這里經(jīng)常遭受蟲災。有一年天大旱，蟲災嚴重，農(nóng)田已近絕收。大家正在心焦如焚之際，一位白發(fā)仙人來此，他手指青山口念咒語，霎時間漫山遍野成了“蛤蟆世界”，只見成群結隊的蛤蟆奔向田間，各個張開大嘴，將田間的'害蟲吃進腹中。蟲災解決了，青苗保住了。接著白發(fā)仙人又口吐一氣，化作漫天烏云，頃刻間降下兩個時辰的大雨，隨之旱情也解除了。仙人臨行前，將山坡上一塊巨石點化為蛤蟆面視田野，用以鎮(zhèn)伏害蟲，使這里永保風調(diào)雨順、五谷豐登。
大家看這個龍盤石。傳說海棠山地區(qū)遠古時期是一片汪洋大海。地殼幾經(jīng)變遷抬升，使海水退走。龍王的一個兒子留戀這里的美麗風光不愿隨父遷走，便化小身形藏在一塊巨巖縫里。玉皇大帝直到這件事以后，便將龍子點化為這塊藏頭縮尾的龍盤石。
我們現(xiàn)在看到的這尊巨大的摩崖造像是釋迦牟尼像。它高4米，坐在巨大的蓮花寶座上，其姿態(tài)安詳，雕工精美，堪稱一絕。
