Dear Showdo,
With this letter I am, in principle, offering you a postdoctoral position in my laboratory in the Department of xxxxx at the University of xxxx xxxx Science Center in xxxx (xxxxx). Your initial annual salary for this position will be $35,568 and your expected start date will be on or about 1 September 2005, depending on successful completion of all visa requirements. The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable annually thereafter up to three years (as per your expected visa), contingent on your performance. Materials for your H-1 visa will be processed through the xxxxxx Office of International Services and coordinated by Sandes Whiles, Administrator for the Department of xxxxxx.
Your responsibilities in the laboratory will include, but will not necessarily be restricted to, development and implementation of xxxxxx experiments in non-human species, including mice, rats, pigeons and rhesus monkeys, as well as data analyses and preparation of results for presentation in press and at meetings. You will become familiar with all aspects of these studies, assist with general administration of the laboratory, supervise students and technicians, and regularly attend laboratory meetings and selected Department functions and activities (e.g., seminars). We have a strong group of investigators involved in xxxx research and I am confident that you will find your research experience to be both rewarding and productive. An additional official letter of offer from the xxxx Science Center (i.e., from the Chairman of this Department) will accompany the H-1 visa packet.
