Oct 2003 – 2007, PhD in Department of Colour Science, University of Leeds, UK The PhD research programme involved multiple projects largely based on the use of bacterial cells to decolourise coloured effluent solutions. Immobilised cells have also been used in the colour reduction of solutions containing metal-complex azo dyes. Graft copolymerisation to modified cellulose was found to be practicable as an immobilisation substrate for the bacterial cells. The decoloration of the reactive dye solutions using the immobilised cells was successful. The free cells were found to be effective in the colour reduction of the selected metal-complex azo dyes. Oct 2002 – Sep 2003, MSc in Department of Colour and Polymer Chemistry, University of Leeds, UK MSc (Hons) in ‘The use of biological cells to treat aqueous effluents.
