平行結構是英語中常見結構，十分重要卻屢屢被忽視，對它的辨識可以幫助快速清晰劃分句子結構。所謂平行結構即把句中屬于同一句法成分的并列事物用相同結構表達，因此并列結構前后往往呈現對稱性。從理解角度而言，掌握這一特點，可以幫助很快切分句子，在做閱讀的時候，可以幫助清晰理解復雜句子和段落，甚至直接得分。
這里對2014考研英語真題翻譯題目進行分析。
一、修飾成分平行
在今年英語一翻譯48題的主語很長(Beethoven’s habit of increasing the volume with an extreme intensity andthen abruptly following it with a sudden soft passage)，但是一旦判斷出平行結構，主語就可以簡化為Beethoven’s habit，of引導并列的動名詞結構increasing the volume withan extreme intensity 和 following it with a suddensoft passage，因此就翻譯為“貝多芬表演時習慣把音量提至頂點，然后驟然轉到柔和的篇章”。同樣，49題中，he advocated freedom ofthought and of personal expression，在辨別出平行結構后，該句主干就很快辨識出為he advocated freedom。這里and連接了兩個of的并列，這兩個of結構作后置定語修飾freedom。還原為he advocated freedom of thoughtand (freedom)of personal expression。

二、主干成分平行
英語一翻譯50題saying的賓語從句主干部分中，并列連詞but并列了一個主系表結構(suffering is inevitable)和一個主謂結構(the courage to fight it renders life worth living)。英語二翻譯第一段最后一句According to Tal Ben-Shahar,realistic optimists are those who make the best of things thathappen, but not those who believe everything happens for the best，其中也包含了并列結構，主干為realistic optimists are those, but not those，復雜之處在于對兩個those都有定語從句修飾，這也體現了平行結構的對稱性。
三、文章結構平行
文章結構的平行有隱性和顯性兩種，隱性平行往往通過內在邏輯實現，而顯性平行則往往有明顯的并列關系詞。例如英語二真題第二段第一句Ben- Shahar uses three optimistic exercises.，從three看出以下應該有三個部分平行，但是本題難在第一層含義沒有出現顯性關系詞，而第二層和第三層則分別有next和finally兩個詞來表明。如果能注意到這點，則能夠很快理清做題思路，否則會陷入句子細節本身，文章結構雜亂。
