一、審題明確
首先必須理清寫作順序，有一個清晰的寫作脈絡，明白題目所涵蓋的內容。清楚這篇文章的體裁格式，用什么時態，用第幾人稱，可以分幾段，之間用什么過渡詞、連接詞。然后列出提綱，最后豐富自己的提綱就可以了。
通常一篇文章包括三個部分，開頭部分——說出文章的要點和核心，正文部分——圍繞主題展開敘述和討論，結尾部分——對全文進行總結和概括。
比如一篇作文題目叫“A trip”，很顯然這是一篇記敘文，是要寫一次短途旅行中發生的事情，而且已經發生過了。發生過的事情，且是自己親身經歷的，就用第一人稱和過去時。如果是去描述發生在他人身上的事情，就用第三人稱和過去時。
范文：
I went hiking to a mountain with my friends last summer.(開頭點題是去年發生的一次短途旅行)It was a good trip at the beginning but something unexpected happened on the half way.One of my friends suddenly felt a terrible pain in his stomach and he couldn’t move any further.Nobody knew what to do.One girl tried to call her mum with her mobile phone but there was no signal in the mountain area.Luckily we brought a tent with us.We put it up and let him rest in it.He took some medicine.Then he drank some water.and ate some food.After a while，he felt much better and we walked on.(描述在這次短途旅行中發生了意外的事情，最后大家是怎么解決的)We all enjoyed ourselves on the top of the mountain.(最后再次總結這次旅行大家都很開心。)
二、用好連接詞
根據評分準則，有效地使用語句間的連接成分，使全文緊湊，是第五檔(21-25分)的要求之一。將句子用合適的詞連接成段落，并將前后的表述整理通順，是作文流暢緊湊的'關鍵。
我們學過很多連接詞，例如：
表示羅列、增加：first, second, third, first, then, next, after that, what’s more, In addition, furthermore, moreover, another, also, especially, in particular
表示時間順序：now, at present, recently, after, afterwards, after that, after a while, in a few days
表示解釋說明：now, in addition, for example, for instance, in this case, more over, furthermore, in fact, actually
表示轉折關系：but, however, while, though, or, otherwise, on the contary, on the other hand
表示并列關系：or, and, also, too, not only…but also, as well as, both…and, either…or, neither...nor
表示因果關系：because, because of, since, now that, as, thanks to…, due to…, therefore, as a result(of) , otherwise, so…that, such…that

三、詳略得當，突出重點
一篇洋洋灑灑卻毫無中心的作文無論如何是拿不到高分的。一篇優秀的英語作文，一定要有突出的中心思想，文章內容的安排要有詳有略。
在文章的框架確定后，對內容的選取是很關鍵的。選材要注意取舍，應該從表現文章主題的需要出發，分清主次，安排詳略。面面俱到使情節羅列化，導致作文平淡而缺乏重點。而突出重點，詳寫細述那些能表現文章主題的重要情節，略寫粗述那些非關鍵的次要情節，是寫好作文、表現主題的關鍵。我們可以來讀一篇滿分作文，以更深刻地了解怎樣突出作文的重點。 The Christmas Day

四、常用點睛
正確地運用好復雜的詞匯和句型，會使你的作文生動形象，脫穎而出。
1.適當地使用詞組、習語來代替單詞，避免適用重復的單詞
如表達“他興趣廣泛”，我們可以用：He has many interests.但是如果我們將“many”改為“a variety of”。He has a variety of interests.就顯得富有文采了。
為了避免使用某一個單詞，我們可以選擇它的同義詞來代替。如：I like reading while my sister likes playing football.這個句子中，用了兩個“like”，我們可以用“like”的同義詞“enjoy”代替其中一個“like”，句子變為：I like reading while my sister enjoys playing football.這樣，句子就生動一些了。
2.使用不同的句型，使句子豐富多彩起來
