The comic is an ironical illustration that it is unadvisable to search for a shortcut to learning. The student tries to find a book about how to do well in school without studying in the library, only to be told that it is unrealistic and impractical.
The discussion of whether there is a shortcut to learning is essentially the requesting for a supreme learning method – a panacea every learner wishes for. In my opinion, the shortcut to learning does exist. It is the combination of diligence and intelligence. As Thomas Edison says, “Genius is one per cent inspiration, ninety-nine per cent perspiration.”
On one hand, hard work is the premise and prerequisite for achieving academic success. Even the most resourceful ones have to devote their time studying and reading, because knowledge does not go automatically into the brain. All efforts will be futile if we idle away our time.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that there are ways to improve learning efficiency, especially with the support of technology like the Internet. Better learners are always the ones with cleverer learning skills.
To sum up, only when we learn diligently and skillfully can we achieve academic success.

It is a common phenomenon that a large number of students are pursuing success with a wrong belief that there exists a shortcut to learning. The picture given reveals this fact in an ironic way. We can easily notice from the cartoon that a student is asking the teacher in the library how to achieve accomplishment in school without studying, while the teacher is pointing to the fiction section to tell him to work hard.
Learning is actually a painstaking process in which both students on campuses and employees of working agencies are struggling to acquire knowledge by sparing great efforts. On the contrary, some people in today’s society aim at studying without hard work, following the so-called “shortcut” ways. From my own perspective, there is no shortcut in the way to learn. First and foremost, learning or obtaining knowledge is based on the accumulation step by step. The famous saying that Rome is not built in one day teaches us that no goal is achieved without persistence and accumulation. In addition, the shortcut to learning is extremely appealing to those who are unwilling to spend time and energy studying because they might win by a fluke. However, students advocating the shortcut is unlikely to win every time. Last but not least, the fickleness and negative attitudes towards exams are responsible for the widespread trend of the shortcut belief, and it surely lead to the failure of study to some students. Taking a look around us, we can find that many agencies and people believe in the prediction of the exams, and students may be indulged in the so-called perditions and pay no attention to studying hard.
As has been mentioned, learning without hard work tends to be useless and meaningless, for students cannot have a great chance to grow into all-round intellectuals. The picture makes us college students aware of the great significance of true skill and genuine knowledge. Only by making efforts to learn in and after class can we gain solid and real ability and competence.

As is vividly depicted in the picture, before the circulation desk stands a student, who wants to find a shortcut to learning, with the librarian pointing it to him.On the lower part of the picture,we can see some English characters which read “ How To Do Well In School Without Studying is over there in the fiction section”.
As to me, I think there is no shortcut to success, and the English characters under the picture also mean that the shortcut to success only exist in the virtual world.Whether you can do well in school is based on the effort that you spend on study. That is to say,the more diligent you are,the better your study is.Diligent is momentous and fundamental to people what the soul is vital and significant to us.Had it not been for it,we could not have been success. The story of Ma Yun,founder of China’s online trading empire, best prove the significance of diligent in realizing personal ambition and creating value to the world.
“The most crucial part of your life,”once wrote a distinguished professor, “is to cultivate the quality of diligent.”I was,and remains, the supporter of the idea that “There is no shortcut to learning.”

Thats also the way I do it.Since the day I began learning English,I started to memorize words.
First ,the ones in the textbooks ,then what I happened to meet in the newspapers ,novels and even on the Internet.I still remember a classmate of mine gossiped: Ren Chang is reciting the dictionary)?Thats never the case.I would easily get tired memorizing words for some definite purposes ,such as for exams.
To be frank,I never finished the dictionary for CET-4.I just memorize the words Id like to. Interest plays a very important role.If you dont like a language, you wont want to learn it ,and even if you do,youre objecting it subconsciously, which is a hin-drance to deep involvement and inspiration. But if youre fond of it ,everything seems quite natural.Words get into your memory and stay, just like magic.
Reading is also an important part in language learning.Weve got an old Chinese saying If you read the poems again and again, you will surely be able to sing even though you cant write. To be familiar with the articles written by natives , you can get a hint how they handle the language, and may be able to make use of what you read in your own writing. You may ask what to read.First your textbooks, theyre chosen because theyre typical and usually formal.
Then some interesting novels ,better choose the ones written today than those of the 18th century,if youre not going to be a linguist.Newspapers and magazines are good choices too, especially if you are concerned with the news at home and abroad.

As is depicted in the cartoon, a student is asking a librarian whether there is a book on how to perform well in school without learning, and the librarian tells the student that to do well in school without studying only happens in fictions. Undoubtedly, the cartoonist aims at reminding us of a fact that there is no shortcut to learning.
The rapid living tempo influences our life deeply, but while running after high-efficiency, we should hold a correct attitude toward learning, because learning requires long-term and pains taking effort and diligence. In fact, hardly can we achieve success without correct learning attitude. As competition in all lines of work grows increasingly fierce, we must defeat our rivals through diligent learning. Numerous examples available can be given, but a case in point is Thomas Edison, who in 1879, after more than 1,000 trials, eventually invented an inexpensive alternative to candles and gaslight: the incandescent lamp. Edison’s story vividly echoes a well-known proverb——Rome is not built in one day.
Hence, it is vital for us to derive positive implications from the above picture. For one thing, we should frequently use it to enlighten the young. For another, we should cultivate their awareness that correct proper learning attitude carries great importance. Only by doing so, can the younger generation become winner in the face of learning and life.
