The world is changing and developing at a faster and faster rate all the time. Because of this, the difference between children and their parents is becoming more pronounced with each new generation. In todays society, there are many differences between the age groups.
When our parents were growing up, the world was filled with turmoil. They were born into a time of war, and generally, lived through a very difficult era. Therefore, our parents are very careful to prevent accidents before they happen, and never act spontaneously. Our parents are very careful with how they spend their money, and do not spend much time relaxing. On the other hand, the current generation has grown up in a very safe, peaceful environment. We do not spend our time worrying about the future; instead, our time is spent enjoying the present.
Second, our methods of entertainment are very different from our parents. Television, computers and the Internet are relatively new inventions. Our parents did not have such luxuries when they were growing up.
Instead, they spent their free time outside, going on hikes around the city, or on bike rides. Today, most young people spend their free time inside, either watching television or playing computer games. Outdoor activities are usually saved for special occasions, such as trips outside the city.
The final way that todays generation is different from the previous one is seen in how we view change and progress. As mentioned above, our parents do not enjoy living spontaneously. They like to have a set schedule, and follow it every day. Young people, however, like their lives to be full of adventure. They enjoy searching out the unknown. For example, many students spend copious amounts of time learning English so they can go abroad to a foreign university. Many of our parents will not even get on an airplane to travel across China, not to mention traveling to another continent!
In conclusion, I believe that children are vastly different from their parents in todays society. Young people do not have to struggle to live; everything comes easily to them. The older generation, however, had a much more difficult life. Such large differences in lifestyle have created a very wide generation gap.

There are basically two types of classes in university, classes, i.e., where teachers lecture and where the students do some of the talking. Both teaching and learning approaches are valuable and have their own relative merits.
Classes that are dominated by teachers lectures may benefits students in several ways. First of all, lectures can communicate the intrinsic interest of the subject matter. The speaker can convey personal enthusiasm in a way that no book or other media can. Enthusiasm stimulates interest, and it is an undeniable fact that interested, stimulated people tend to learn more. Moreover, lectures in university settings can provide students with role models of scholars in action. The professors way of approaching knowledge can be demonstrated for students to emulate. Furthermore, lectures can organize material in a special way. They may provide a faster, simpler method of presenting information to an audience with its own special needs. Lectures are particularly useful for students who read poorly or who are unable to organize print material.
On the other hand, lecture approaches also have some relevant weaknesses. For example, the lecture often puts students in a passive rather than an active role. As is often the case, passivity can hinder learning. At the same time, most lectures assume that all students are learning at the same pace and at the same level of understanding, which is hardly ever true. Especially, Lectures place the burden of organizing and synthesizing content solely on the lecturer. They are not well suited to higher levels of learning such as application, analysis, and synthesis. Lectures require an effective speaker who can vary tone, pitch, and pace of delivery. Lecturers must be verbally fluent, a skill that is not stressed nor learned in many Ph.D. programs and is usually distributed unevenly among people. Lectures are therefore sometimes not well suited to complex, detailed, or abstract material.
In summary, Lecturing is probably the oldest teaching method and remains the most common form of instruction, despite the fact that some research has shown that lecturing is ineffective, especially if not combined with some alternative style of teaching. In fact, Lecturing is very appropriate for some goals and very inappropriate for others. And at the same time, the counterpart — the approach that allows students to participate discussions is equally non-universal. Therefore, I can hardly simply say that I prefer either approach. I think the choice should depend on circumstances including various factors such as the subject that is to learn, the depth that needs to explore, the quality that the lecturer or the discussing group have.

Holidays are an excellent way to allow societies to honor people or events that have helped their country or the world. There are many things that deserve to be recognized in our culture, but there is one group of people that is underappreciated in society today: inventors. If I were to create a new holiday, it would be to pay respect to these important people and their creations.
Inventors are members of the most unappreciated profession in society today. Without inventors, all civilizations would still be living in the stone age, with no running water, no electricity, and more generally, no comforts. Many inventors create simple objects that do not seem that amazing, but upon closer inspection, one realizes that all inventions contribute greatly to convenience. All societies should pay homage to these great people by honoring them with a holiday.
The first way we could honor inventors is by opening exhibitions in galleries and museums dedicated to the inventions of current and past inventors. Many people have no idea where the greatest inventions came from. By displaying the life work of inventors, people will gain a new appreciation for them. This would also be a learning experience for the public, as they could see what current inventors are working on, and get excited about the upcoming progresses in society.
We could also honor inventors by having a school day dedicated to inventions. It is important to encourage school-aged children to use their imagination to come up with inventions of their own. The school system is excellent in China, but it does not promote free thinking. Children need to be given the opportunity to discover new creations on their own. By having a day dedicated to this, young people would become more interested in the manufacturing of new products and ideas.
So, I believe that inventors deserve their own holiday. They have provided society with so much comfort and convenience. By honoring inventors, we will show them how much we appreciate their efforts, as well as encourage our children to come up with new ideas of their own.

With a population accounting nearly for one quarter of the world population, my country, China, has been suffering from serious loss of arable land, which now hardly accounts for 7% of overall arable land of the world. Yet some people simply do not realize that land loss is so crucial that we one day might incapable of averting that catastrophe if we now close our eyes to it.
Industrial development without careful consideration regarding land preservation has caused problems more serious than people can ever imagine. Take the great Three Gorges dam for example, which will be put into operation next year. While the country benefits from gargantuan potential of electricity generation, we have to face up to various environmental conservation issues concerning geological and ecological environment along both river sides and whole upper reaches. The professional designers of the great dam now have to work out a practical way to prevent and remedy pollution effectively, which has already been the focus of world attention.
After the entrance of the WTO, industry development is more and more important for our country, yet we should be careful about the pollution which is inevitably caused by industry. Recent surveys have shown that refuse treatment engineering is not well financed in China, while attentions are drawn to those much more obvious achievements. Industrial pollution accidents occur far more frequently in our still developing country than in other more advanced countries. Urban population also produce astoundingly large amount of pollution. Today the alleged white pollution is creeping all over the country—people throw plastic bags, films everywhere, never feeling anything wrong.
We no doubt need land either for natural condition or for industry, and it seems we need more if possible. Nevertheless, we live in a world where everything has its cost, and some day in the future, I believe, we will inescapably pay for what we have ignored.

Basically, a house is composed of a living room, a dining room, washrooms, and bedrooms.Even though each room has its valuable features,I fully believe that a bedroom is the most siginificant one. In this place, I can rest, study and chat.
To begin with, a bedroom allows me to recharge my physical and mental batteries. To illustrate, when I am exhausted, I choose to sleep there. With a cozy bad I can gain sufficient energy to work effectiently and effectively. Besides, I can just sit on a couch and read a newspaper and magazine. It makes me relaxed and release my stress. Furthermore, I can meditate or look out at the scenery. These activities can enable me to forget my troubles temporarily. So, I cannot deny that my bedroom is the most appropriate environment to recess.
Moreover, to avoid being disturbed, studying in my bedroom is the best choice for me .I can prepare exams, do projects, complete assignments, and review homework in this tiny and quiet room. On top of that, if necessary, I can surf the Internet for relevant infommation. For example, if I am assigned to make a presentation about "Civil War". I can simply use a search engine like Yahoo or Google to find out "Civil War" and its orgin and its histortical importance. In this way, I will come up with ideas to organize how to present perfectly. Therefore, without a bedroom I might get distracted while studying.
Last but not least, in a bedroom, I can talk to someone through a phone. For instance, I chat with my boyfriend for hours. It would not be easy to chat with him in a public room such as a kitcken or living room. Under these circumstances, I can share my feelings with him. Also, when I am either enlightened or depressed, I can make a phone call to my peers. Thus, communicating with someone in a bedroom appers less embarassing.
Overall, it seems dull to stay in a bedrom. The more time we stick in this spot, the less time we gather with out friends and families. Nevertheless, I whoeheartedly think a bedroom plays a significatn role in a house becuase other rooms cannot substitute its characteristics: a better rest room, a quieter study place, and a more private room for chatting.

What is the most important room in a house, the kitchen, the living room, or the bedroom? Different people have different opinions. From my point of view, I think that the living room is the important room in a house. There are numerous reasons why the living room is more important than the other rooms, and I would explain a few ones.
First, in my recollection, the living room remind me of a lot of rosy memory. In the past, our living room was always a center of congregating. All family members sit together here. Sometimes, we watched TV. Other times, we played chess. Our living room was always full of happiness and pleasure. Now I have my own family, I hope that my living room also becomes the source of our family pleasure.
In addition, the living room also a place for parties and guests. When our family friends came to visit, we always entertained them in our living room. Sometimes, we even buy some ornaments such as flowers to decorate our living room. The purpose of all of these is to show our sincere welcome to our guests. We always made our living room spotless. If we take our friends to a messy living room, perhaps our friends will not visit us again. Therefore, a living room always plays a very important role in our social actives.
In a word, a living room always plays an important role in both our family life and our social activities. Therefore, I think a living room is the most important room in our house.

Should cities offer free public WIFI access to their citizens despite its high cost?
Many cities all over the world are implementing free public wifi networks. Should internet access become a human right? Find a list of cities with free wifi and join the discussion on the pros and cons of providing this service.
Should cities offer free public WIFI access?
The Internet is becoming so important in our lives that many people consider Internet access as important as water or power supply. Some even argue that internet access should be declared a human right because it enables people to educate themselves, access job offers, and connect with other people. However, in many places, cell phone contracts and data allowances are very expensive, so people with lower incomes may be unable to access the Internet, which negatively affects their ability to improve their situation. The (lack of) Internet can create a very deep divide in some societies and contribute to the persistence of inequality and poverty. This is why many analysts and advocates of economic and social development claim that cities should offer free public WiFi access to everyone. Currently, many cities all over the world are already providing this service to their citizens in many public places. But there are also costs and risks to consider which are deterring other local authorities from implementing similar initiatives. Find out more about the pros and cons of providing free wifi and tell us which is, in your opinion, the right decision.
Benefits of free public WiFi
The provision of city wide WiFi services has several advantages. An increasing number of citizens use the Internet constantly in their education, professional and social lives. People check regularly their emails and Whatsapp messages. They use the Internet to find shops, restaurants and museums, to compare product prices and to get a taxi. Free public WiFi contributes to a better connected society and more agile interactions between citizens and business.
Any mayor or government authority implementing this public service would see its popularity boosted immediately. Tourists and visitors in business trips would also find their stay more pleasant. The reputation of the city providing such a service free of charge would certainly incre

Human life spanorlongevity has been presumably claimed to be longer than it was. Nevertheless, no verified statistics are available to support this assumption. Although many theories have been put forward to shed lights on the mystery of human aging, debility, and death, the correlation between longevity and a factorora series of factors is yet spurious.
In the ancient times, human life span was deemed to be determined by unknown force, whose name varied from religion to religion and from culture to culture. In ancient China, it was considered to be totally doomedorpredestined. The force was called Tian Ming. Tian means the heaven, similar to the Father in Heaven in Christian religion, while Ming implies fate. Hellenistic culture and Egyptian civilization have similar counterparts but in different versions.
In the modern time, nevertheless, science and technology have not only dominated human material world but also exerted tremendous influences on mentalorspiritual world, eroding the primitive faith and beliefs about human life and longevity. But scientists have never reached a conclusive agreement about the determinant of human life span. Some scientists attempt to reveal this millennium myth by conducting research on the process of aging. They assume that human life span is genetically determined. That is to say human genes contain a program that determines the life span. Nevertheless, the correlation between gene and life span remains to be a myth. In this case, what the scientists have undertaken is nothing but to create more myths because they first have to understand what gene is and then they must unambiguously explain what the program is and who creates the program in gene. Alas!
Some scholars even argue that the modern medicine and advanced medical care programs, together with healthier foods and scientific eating habits, have contributed to the assumed longer human life span. They, however, have failed to see that in many cases it was just these modern medicineormedical care programs that account for why people today have more lethalorpestilential diseases such as the highly contagious respiratory illness appeared in 2002 called SARS . The use of antibiotics is also believed to be the direct cause of some new virus such as the corona virus in the SARS case.
As to the foods, it is hard to believe that they are healthier. In fact many crops, vegetables, fruits, and animals have been formidably polluted in the process of growing by pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. Therefore, it is arbitrary to say that healthier foods help people live longer. In addition, the prevailing eating habitsorlife styles might be scientific because they are heavily influencedoraffected by scientists and their cheap products. But it is invalid to claim that scientific life style naturally leads to longer life span. Neither convincing scientific theories nor empirical evidence show that foods and the way people eat contribute to the extension of human life span.
To summarize, no verified evidence demonstrates that human life span today is longer than it was, in statistic sense, since it is impossible to compare the life span of an individual to hisorher otherwise life span. Moreover, the factors contributing to human life spanorlongevity are too complex to know yet.

In current society, according to the survey conducted by a newspaper titled China Daily, the study burden on the shoulder of students is increasingly heavier, which has attracted widespread public attention. When it come to what parents can do to help their children’s study, many people, if not most, are strong believers of the claim that parents should finish their kids’ homework for the purpose of relieving the study pressure. However, as far as I am concerned, parents are supposed to guide their children to complete their homework independently, for having a better command of knowledge imparted in class and cultivating their independent thinking ability.
First and foremost, it is undeniable that finishing homework by themselves can help children better absorb the knowledge they obtained. As is known to all, the purpose of assigning homework to students is to review what they learned in the class. In other words, teachers will view their assignments as a yardstick to evaluate how well their students have absorbed the knowledge. For example, a history teacher may require his students to write a paper about the Independence War after briefly introducing the background and process of this war. Due to the lack of sufficient information about this subject, kids may turn to their parents for help. Some parents may do everything for their children, including collecting data, outlining the whole article and even finishing the paper. However, other parents may just provide some information sources and ask their kid to select relevant information and design the structure of the article. After finishing the paper, those who finish it independently have understood the whole process of Independent War, while those who do not complete by themselves forget what they learned quickly.
Furthermore, it is indisputable that doing assignment independently can foster children’s ability of solving problems on their ow

People attend college or university for many different reasons . Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
People attend colleges or universities for a lot of different reasons. I believe that the three most common reasons are to prepare for a career, to have new experiences, and to increase their knowledge of themselves and the world around them.
Career preparation is becoming more and more important to young people. For many, this is the primary reason to go to college, They know that the job market is competitive. At college, they can learn new skill for careers with a lot of opportunities. This means careers, such as information technology, that are expected to need a large workforce in the coming years.
Also, students go to colleges and universities to have new experiences. This often means having the opportunity to meet people different from those in their hometowns. For most students, going to college is the first time theyve been away from home by themselves. In additions, this is the first time theyve had to make decisions on their own. Making these decisions increases their knowledge of themselves.
Besides looking for self-knowledge, people also attend a university or college to expand their knowledge in subjects they find interesting. For many, this will be their last chance for a long time to learn about something that doesnt relate to their career.
I would recommend that people not be so focused on a career. They should go to college to have new experiences and learn about themselves and the world they live in.

高分范文:
Just as a classic Chinese saying denotes, every trade has its master. Indeed, the profound meaning lying in this proverb persuades us that whatever subjects a student learns, are all worthwhile and useful for their future career life. Undeniably, in todays highly competitive social atmosphere, choosing a popular field of study might prepare students for better job opportunities. However, in my opinion, it is more important to select a subject that suits a persons interests.
First of all, emphasis should be placed on what has been suggested in the famous saying "interest is the best teacher". Evidently, the primary step toward a persons success is to have an emotional preference. It constitutes the biggest impetus in learning. Interest also keeps one refreshed and prevents feelings of boredom and tiredness. Those epoch-making accomplishments in the scientific world owe much to the initial interest of the scientists. To illustrate, Charles Darwin is famous for his masterpieceentitled On the Origin of Species. His early interest in nature led him to quit his medical studies at the University of Edinburgh and explore activities instead. Further education at Cambridge continued to encourage his passion for natural science. At last, his learning enthusiasm and untiring efforts paid off. His story perfectly indicates the importance of interest as a factor in a persons success.
Besides, choosing a favorite subject ensures ones learning efficiency, allowing him to accomplish better results. According to the data analysis revealed by a research team, school students score higher in the subjects they prefer than in the subjects they dislike. Therefore, taking up a favorite subject improves performance during their course of study and brings about more satisfactory results. In a sense, excelling in a subject paves the way for a students academic success in the future. Conversely, if a student is forced to learn a subject not in his interest, it is difficult for him to achieve the same results, not to mention difficulty in applying it in his future career.
Furthermore, to choose a favorite subject makes the learning experience full of joy. Happiness lies in the process, not just in the final result. To some extent, interest is a good friend keeping one company and making one joyful much of the time. For example, whenever a math problem arises, so does a moment of pleasure. It is time to enjoy the process of solving the problem. Whenever a new theory in biology is grasped, another cheerful moment ensues. It is time to explore more deeply and to make more interesting discoveries. Without doubt, fascination with a subject makes each step of learning delightful.
In conclusion, there is no need to be prejudiced about certain subjects. As long as they are being taught in schools, they are all serving some purpose for personal success and social development. Therefore, before choosing the subjects to study, the primary requisite ought to be "does it interest me?”

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older (15 to 18 year-old) teenaged children. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
No one knows me as well as my parents. No one wants the best for me like my parents. It is natural that I should allow my parents to make important decisions for me. I think all older teenagers (15 to 18 year-olds) should take their parents advice on decisions that concern their education, their social life, and their future careers.
My parents have always chosen the best schools for me to attend. They have encouraged me to attend special prep classes to make sure that I was well prepared for the exams. They have given me tutors to make sure that I understood my subjects well. When it comes to choosing a college, I will trust my parents to make that decision. They know what they can afford and what will give me a good education.
When I was young, my parents would invite children over to play with me. Over the years, I have become very close to these children. They are like my family. We celebrate holidays and birthdays together. We even go to the mountains together in the summer. My parents do not want me to fall into the wrong crowd. They do not want me to meet and fall in love with someone they do not know. I understand that and I want to make them happy.
My father runs a very successful business and my mother is a well-known politician. They are very well connected and they have many friends who would like me to work for them when I finish school. This is a very good arrangement for me.
If all children follow their parents’ wishes, they would probably be happier. Parents only want the best for their children.

Some people like to do only what they already do well. Other people prefer to try new things and take risks. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice. Many people like to do things that they already do well, many others like to take risks to do things new. Both sides are supported by good reasons. For my part, I think it depends on what kind of things that people in the face of. I prefer to do things that I already do well when I should do things to benefit the others. On the other hand, I would like to take risks to try something new in order to improve myself, that means I will be the person who benefit from what I do.
People are all live in the society and have relationships with each other. So what one do can influence the others directly or indirectly. In this case, people should do their best to benefit and convenient for the others. If one does not have enough experience and skills to do things well, the people around them maybe complain or they will ruin their plan. Is it very nice to share their own risks to the others to get more experience for themselves? Absolutely not. The society or the small groups can run well only as all the members in it do the things they can do well.
To benefit oneself, people should do something new. Nobody can learn more from the things they already familiar with. There are always much more challenges to do something new. But after overcoming all the difficulties, one can get more new knowledge or experience, and get themselves improved. No matter what the result it is, success or failure, the course always gives the leaner a great lesson. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If one never takes any risks, one will never have any success.
Personal experience leads me to conclude that if I do things to benefit others, I choose to do things I already do well, otherwise,I will choose to take risks to do things new. In that way, I can improve myself.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Some people believe that television has destroyed communication among friends and family. I think this is an exaggeration. In my opinion, whether or not television hurts communication depends on what type of program is being viewed. More importantly, it depends on the type of viewer.
There are empty programs and educational programs. Empty programs do not challenge people. They have just enough storyline to keep them from switching channels. There are also passive and active viewers. A passive viewer will just watch television without thinking about what be or she seeing. The combination of an empty program and a passive viewer makes communication unlikely. Passive viewers just continue to watch, actually enjoying the fact that they dont have to think. They wont break away to talk about programming with friends and family. Even with better programming, passive viewers still wont think or communicate much. The probably even prefer the empty program because the better programming is too much work.
On the other hand, active viewers watching educational programming always want to share what they see with friends and family. Educational doesnt necessarily mean documentaries on BBS. They could be dramas with realistic relationships or action shows with clever plotlines. When active viewers watch programs, they have ideas and talk about them with others. Good programming inspires them to change their thinking and their lives. Unlike passive viewers, they dont want to watch more and more without thinking.
Television may destroy communication among passive viewers. Those viewers probably dont want to communicate with friends and family much anyway. For active viewers who already enjoy communicating, television is actually helpful!

Many parts of the world are losing important natural resources, such as forests, animals, or clean water. Choose one resource that is disappearing and explain why it needs to be saved . Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion .
Many natural resources are disappointed of being wasted on our planet every day. One of the most important resources we are abusing is our trees. Each year , hundreds of thousands of acres of trees disappear in countries all around the world . In some countries , these trees are used for fuel. In other countries , trees are destroyed to build housing developments and shopping centers. Saving trees has become a major cultural and economical issue in many of the world.
Trees are essential to our survival . They are a major part of the process of photosynthesis . Photosynthesis is the process in which green plants use carbon dioxide to produce oxygen ,and oxygen is something all of us need . The fewer trees there are ,the more this affects our ability to breathe.
Trees are also important in the development of many medicines. The mainstream medical establishment did not recognize this for many years. However , those who use natural medicines have always known how important trees are. Now scientists are agreeing with them. Many drugs come from the leaves of certain trees, along with other herds and plants.
In rural areas, farmers have always known how important trees are to soil conservation. This is why you’ll usually see trees lining a field . Tree rots help keep the soil in place, and are also a factor in water distribution deep beneath the ground .
Finally ,we should save trees from disappearing because they provide so much pleasure. ‘I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree,’ wrote a poet .
That is the truth . A tall , stately tree is beautiful to look at, and pleasing to the soul . It is also a great place to find shade on a hot summer’s day. For practical and emotional reasons, we need to preserve our planet’s trees.

In addition, the aims of the governments exploring outer space are complex, and some of these aims are unnecessary, costing much of the capital in the research. In fact, almost all of the nations that develop sciences and technologies to improve the research of outer space at least partially intend to gain the preponderance on martial field or display the martial power of the country, just as the arms race between America and pre-Russia about many years ago. What the people of America and Russia attained from this rival? The governments used much money, which would have been used to reform the economy and reconstruct the country after the World War II, to show the power or gain the balance between the countries, leaving the public worrying about the possibility of the World War III. Without martial aim, the development of the research in outer space will not cost so much money as it dose.
Somebody might object that the research of outer space has provided us many benefits. For example, satellite technology leads the scientists to forecast the weather precisely, decreasing the loss in natural disaster and diminishing the rate of casualty. I approve that we do attain much from the research of outer space, and I also admit that the government should spend some money doing research on outer space, but it does not mean that the governments should spend as much money as possible exploring outer space, just as an interesting example says, eating food can make people strong does not mean that people eating as much as possible can be strong and healthy, either.
In conclusion, the investments in the research of outer space, like those in researches that closely relative to people’s life, must be balanced against other types of investments on the basis of direct, tangible benefits, such as the life improvement and security of the public. Therefore, the governments should not spend as much money as possible exploring outer space because such spending will break the balance and will be harmful to the reputation of the government. The people need a good life, which means most of them will support the plan that creates more jobs and provides more clean environment, but not the plan of Star War. And, without the support of the public, the unfavorable government will certainly be taken place.
